South Charleston’s Derrek Pitts among WVU early enrollees

Four-star safety Derrek Pitts was among three high school signees who became midterm enrollees at West Virginia on Tuesday.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Three high school prospects officially became midterm enrollees at West Virginia on Tuesday, bringing the early arrival count to 10 for the 2017 recruiting class.

South Charleston four-star safety Derrek Pitts, New Orleans three-star athlete Tevin Bush and Morgantown three-star fullback Maverick Wolfley signed letters of intent and enrolled.

Pitts, who spent three months as a Penn State commitment before flipping, earned all-state honors and received the Carl Lee Award recognizing the top defensive back in West Virginia. At 6-foot-2 and 179 pounds, he could play several safety spots including Spur.

Rivals ranks him the nation’s No. 23 safety prospect.

Wolfley keeps the family lineage churning at WVU, joining his brother Stone on the current roster. Wolfley’s father Dale was an offensive linemen on the 1988 national runner-up team and his uncle Ron a former Mountaineers fullback who enjoyed a 10-year NFL career.

Scout and 247 Sports rank Wolfley as a top-30 inside linebacker after a high school career in which e made 332 tackles.

Bush, the No. 10 all-purpose back nationally and No. 27 recruit in Louisiana by Rivals, led his Landry-Walker team to the 5A state title while eclipsing 2,500 yards and scoring 29 touchdowns.

Last month seven junior college signees joined the program:

Offensive tackle Kelby Wickline, Jones (Miss.) Junior College
Defensive end Quondarius Qualls, Northwest Mississippi Community College
Defensive tackle Jalen Harvey, Northwest Mississippi Community College
Receiver David Sills, El Camino (Calif.) Community College
Receiver Dominique Maiden, Riverside (Calif.) Community College
Cornerback Hakeem Bailey, Iowa Western Community College
Defensive end Ezekiel Rose, East Mississippi Community College

Wickline and Bailey have three full seasons of eligibility remaining, while the other juco signees arrive as juniors with their redshirt years still available.
