Wood County shooting suspect apprehended in Braxton County

MINERAL WELLS, W.Va. — The West Virginia State Police and other law enforcement agencies successfully apprehended a man wanted in connection a fatal shooting Tuesday morning in Wood County.

Lt. Michael Baylous of the West Virginia State Police confirmed Jeff Sampson, 46, hometown unknown, was taken into custody by law enforcement just after 12:30 Tuesday afternoon in Braxton County.

Sampson was considered armed and dangerous and had been unaccounted for since the shooting took place around 8 am Tuesday morning.

Parkersburg South High School, Mineral Wells Elementary School, and Glenville State College were all on lock down at differing points today.

Police believe Sampson was headed for the Arnoldsburg area in Calhoun County.
