Martinsburg No. 1 in first boys basketball MetroNews Power Index

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Martinsburg debuts as the top ranked team in the first edition of the MetroNews Power Index computer rankings, presented by AARP, for boys high school basketball.

The Bulldogs entered Wednesday with a 7-1 ranking with that lone loss coming out of state during a tournament in Myrtle Beach. Martinsburg is also the only team, entering Wednesday, to have beaten Hedgesville (10-1).

Musselman (6-0) is No. 2, University (8-0) No. 3, Hedgesville No. 4 and Morgantown (6-1) No. 5. Bluefield (7-1) is the highest rated Class AA team, coming in at No. 9 overall. Fayetteville (7-0) is the highest rated Class A team, overall rated No. 24.

The MetroNews Power Index is a computer based formula that factors in strength of schedule. Records listed are for games played through Tuesday, January 10.
