Investigators reconstructing quadruple fatal accident in Harrison County

SALEM, W.Va. — Four people are dead and a fifth person is being treated for serious injuries following a multi-vehicle accident Wednesday evening near Salem in Harrison County.

According to the Harrison/Taylor 911 Center, the accident occurred just after 5:15 pm Wednesday night when a four-door pick-up truck traveling west bound apparently veered into the median along Rt. 50 where the highway meets Raccoon Run Road.

The pick-up hit a flatbed traveling along Rt. 50 east bound. Four of the people in the pick-up truck died. A fifth person is in the hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the flatbed truck and the driver of a third vehicle that went over an embankment following the accident also were transported to area hospitals. They are expected to be okay.

It’s not yet known what caused the pick-up to veer into the median.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.
