Stage nearly set for Monday’s gubernatorial inauguration

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The sound of leaf blowers could be heard outside the state capitol Friday afternoon with preparations fully underway for Monday afternoon’s inauguration of the state’s 36th governor Jim Justice.

Workers with the General Services Division were taking care of the grounds including cutting the grass, putting down some fresh mulch and removing leaves. There was also a lot going on the south side of the building with crews installing red carpet down the steps and putting red, white and blue bunting into place.

Inauguration organizers said the procession will begin at 12:30 p.m. Monday with the ceremony starting at 1 p.m. with a bell ringing. Following the ceremony, Governor-elect Justice, his wife and others will meet the public in a receiving line in the lower rotunda. The line will form through the lower entrance on the east side of the capitol near California Ave.

The capitol activities will come to a close with a reception at the state Culture Center.

MetroNews will broadcast the inauguration across the state of West Virginia and on the MetroNews Channel at wvmetronews.com.
