Massive fire consumes Huntington building

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Fire crews in the city of Huntington have had a long night and could be looking at a long day.   A blaze broke out around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at a building on 7th Avenue.

Fire completely engulfed the building which housed Mountain State Liquidation, formerly Mountain State Supply.  Crews worked desperately to control the flames which were fueled by chemicals, ammunition, and propane inside the building.  At one point the entire building was engulfed in flames as crews worked to keep it from spreading.

The later problem involved parts of the roof collapsing.  Fire fighters say they’ll likely be on the scene of the massive blaze well into this afternoon putting out hot spots, and bringing down what’s left of the roof.

A cause for the fire is under investigation.  Authorities say fortunately nobody was injured. Streets around the fires scene on 6th and 7th Avenue have been closed most of the night and are expected to remain closed well into the day.
