FAIRMONT, W.Va. – A repeat drug offender is facing life in prison after a conviction in Marion County in March 2016.
Carlos A. Tilley, of Philadelphia, Pa., was convicted last spring for the delivery of cocaine base within 1,000 feet of West Fairmont Middle School and on a felony conspiracy charge.
Tilley already had four prior felony convictions involving drugs, violent crime, and twice being caught possessing a firearm while being a prohibited person according to the Fairmont Police Department.
Prosecutors in Marion County filed to have Tilley sentenced as a recidivist, a person with at least two prior felony convictions.
A November 16, 2016 trial proved Tilley was a recidivist or a person with at least two prior felony convictions.
Marion County Circuit Court Judge David Janes sentenced Tilley to life in prison on Wednesday, January 18.
Under the “three strikes” law, a life sentence could be imposed on anyone convicted of three separate felonies.
Tilley was also sentenced to 1-5 years in prison for conspiracy to commit a felony.
Fairmont police report Tilley has six recorded felony criminal convictions.
