HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall snapped a two-game losing skid by beating Western Kentucky 94-80 behind a record-tying 3-point effort Saturday.
Guard Jon Elmore scored 27 points and made 7-of-12 shots from 3 for the Herd (12-8, 5-2 in Conference USA).
“That was a lot of fun,” Elmore said. “We got back to playing Marshall basketball. We got out of whack, it seemed like, on that last road trip.”
Steve Browning added 23 points for the Herd.
Marshall erased an early 22-8 deficit and made 19-of-41 from deep, tying school records for 3-pointers and attempts that were set in December 1996 against Morehead State.
“We have to have the ball moving,” said coach Dan D’Antoni. “We are not as athletic or big as most teams we play, and they have to have an athletic ball which gives them the angles and steps to create without having to just line up on a guy and beat him. The ball flew around a lot of times. You can see what it does, it finds the creases.”
Justin Johnson’s 21 points paced six players in double figures for Western Kentucky (9-11, 3-4).
The Herd has won 11 straight home games.
