Toddler found on busy road in Kanawha County, parents charged with child neglect

JEFFERSON, W.Va. — Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies arrested two parents Saturday after a toddler was found wandering around MacCorkle Avenue in Jefferson.

Tammie Gibson, 25, and Robert Hayes, 32, were charged with neglect creating risk of serious bodily injury.

The 23 month old girl was spotted on the 5800 block of MacCorkle Avenue only wearing a diaper. Several individuals stopped to help the toddler to safety.

Deputies said they went to a home nearby where they found both parents asleep.

The toddler was examined by ambulance personnel on scene and was not injured.

Gibson and Hayes are awaiting arraignment. They are currently being held in the South Central Regional Jail.

Child Protective Services also responded to the scene and is conducting their own investigation.
