Well-known Republican Pauley dead at 78

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — One-time prominent West Virginia Republican Bill Pauley died over the weekend in Nashville.

Bill and Susan Pauley had moved to Nashville to be closer to family.

Pauley, 78, grew up in Lincoln County. He served time on the Lincoln County Board of Education and was at one time the West Virginia Republican Party’s National Committeeman.

Pauley, who lived in Charleston before moving to Nashville to be closer to his children, was a valued consultant for Republican candidates.

West Virginia Republican Party Chairman Conrad Lucas told the Corridor Chronicle that Pauley was a “legend” in West Virginia politics.

“He was the first call I made when I was testing the waters to run for state party chairman. Bill’s blessing meant the world. He mentored many politicians across West Virginia and will be greatly missed. West Virginia and the Republican Party are better off because of his lifetime of service. We will keep his family in our prayers,” Lucas said.

Visitation and funeral services are scheduled for Thursday and Friday at Brentwood Hills in Nashville.
