Martinsburg man faces charges in shooting/stabbing at Sheetz store

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Police have arrested a Martinsburg man after an altercation led to a shooting at a local convenience store Tuesday.

Billy Evans, 35, allegedly shot Renzel Danforth, 21, of Maryland multiple times.

Berkeley County Sheriff Curtis Keller says Evans was stabbed during the incident.

“Evans was treated and released from Berkeley Medical Center,” According to Keller. “He was taken into custody and charged with malicious wounding.”

Danforth was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital where Keller said he was listed in stable condition.

More charges could be brought against Evans.

“Investigators were able to determine Evans was the primary aggressor in the altercation,” Keller said.

Keller said investigators have spoken to witnesses and reviewed security footage.

They will be speaking to Dansforth to get his account of the incident as soon as possible.
