W.Va. State Tax Department scaling back walk-in services

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia State Tax Department announced Monday it will be scaling back walk-in services across the state effective immediately.

The department said in a statement this had to be done because of budgetary and staffing constraints.

Walk-in services will now be limited to:

– Accepting completed tax returns along with any payments due.
– Preparing vouchers for taxpayers and accepting billing payments.
– Resolving issues regarding letters received by taxpayers.
– Providing Letters of Good Standing to taxpayers.
– Providing both the state’s Personal Income Tax and Business Registration booklets in hard copy.
– Issuing new and duplicate Business Registration Certificates.

The department said there are free tax preparation services offered through nonprofit organizations. These programs include Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and Tax Counseling for the Elderly.
