WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Federal Emergency Management Agency released an additional $14 million to the state School Building Authority and the Kanawha and Nicholas county school systems Tuesday in connection with recovery efforts from the June 23 flood.
U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Shelley Moore Capito said the money will pay for the demolition of schools destroyed in the flood and portable classroom buildings.
The FEMA awards include:
$3,066,778.50 – to the SBA for demolition of the Summersville Middle School.
$6,604,350.87 – to the Kanawha County BOE to place modular units at Elkview Middle School and relocate students.
$2,740,663.50 – to the SBA for Emergency Protective Measures for the demolition of the Herbert Hoover High School.
$1,602,700.32 – to the Kanawha County BOE to relocate students to modular units placed at the site of Bridge Elementary School.
