MetroNews boys basketball Power Index: Week 4

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — University holds the top spot in the fourth edition of the MetroNews boys basketball Power Index computer rankings, presented by AARP.

The Hawks (13-1) are coming off of their first loss of the season, to rival Morgantown, but still managed to stay ahead of the Mohigans in the ratings as the two teams overall have split a pair of games.

Morgantown (12-2) comes in at No. 2, just ahead of No. 3 Musselman (11-2), which lost last week to Bluefield. George Washington (13-2) is No. 4 and Martinsburg (10-4) No. 5.

University, Morgantown and Musselman were separated at the top by a total of just 21 points in the PI.

Bluefield (13-2) is the highest rated AA team at No. 6, followed by Fairmont Senior (12-3), Poca (11-3), North Marion (13-4), East Fairmont (13-4) and Chapmanville (13-3).

Fayetteville (14-0) remains the state’s only unbeaten and comes in overall at No. 17, the highest rated Class A team. The Pirates are followed by Wheeling Central (16-2), Ravenswood (14-1) and Gilmer County (13-2).

The MetroNews Power Index is a computer based formula that factors in strength of schedule. Records listed are for games played through Tuesday, January 31.
