HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. — Two Siberian Lynx stolen from Wilson’s Wild Animal Park in Winchester, Va. last year were found in Berkeley County last week.
Captain Aleck Beeman with the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office tells WEPM News the animals were first spotted in the Hedgesville area.
“They didn’t show up until Thursday,” Beeman said. “ we think somebody just placed them there.”
Beeman said the cats were likely not just wandering the streets after being taken from their cage between Dec. 19 and Dec. 20, 2016.
Beeman said they’ve been investigating.
“We have a suspect and I’ve been communicating with him then he cut off communications with me.”
That’s when Beeman said the cats showed up.
The cats followed a Hedgesville man home and entered his garage earlier this week.
The man kept them there until the park owner was able to retrieve them Tuesday.
Beeman said the animals were a little underweight, but otherwise seemed unharmed.
The 10 month old cats are said to be worth between $4,000 and $6,000 each.
