Fairmont State names three presidential candidate finalists

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Three finalists have been named as candidates for the Fairmont State University president position.

Dr. Anthony Brizendine of Charlotte, N.C. will visit campus Feb. 13-14.  He is the Professor and Chair of the Department of Engineering Technology and Construction Management at University of North Carolina- Charlotte.

Dr. Michelle R. Howard-Vital is currently the Executive Vice President and Provost for Academic Affairs at Florida Memorial University, Miami Gardens, Fla. She will visit FSU Feb. 23-24.

At the end of the month, Dr. Christopher P. Cirmo, currently Dean of the College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Stevens Point, Wis. will be in Fairmont as the selection process continues.

A dozen candidates were interviewed via Skype in January.  Fairmont State University’s Presidential Search Committee received 28 applicants for the job.  Of those, only 8 were from West Virginia.

Dr. Maria Rose, FSU’s current president, will retire June 30.  She’s spent the last six years in that position after a career at the university that spans more than 25 years.
