MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Musselman has jumped back to No. 1 in this week’s release of the boys basketball MetroNews Power Index computer rankings, presented by AARP.
The Applemen (14-2) edged out No. 2 University (16-2) for the overall top spot by just 0.47 of a point, putting together an unbeaten week with wins over Washington, Hedgesville and Spring Mills. University, meanwhile, went 3-1 over the last week with wins over Fort Hill (MD), Ripley and Woodrow Wilson, to go along with a loss on Tuesday to Huntington.
Capital (14-3) was the biggest winner of the week, jumping up to No. 3. The Cougars have only one in-state loss, coming to Parkersburg last month.
Morgantown (13-3) is No. 4, Class AA Bluefield (15-2) No. 5 and Parkersburg (13-4) No. 6. Behind Bluefield in AA, the Beavers are followed by Fairmont Senior (14-3), Philip Barbour (13-3), East Fairmont (14-4), North Marion (14-5), Poca (11-5), Chapmanville (15-4) and Mingo Central (14-3).
Fayetteville (17-0) is the highest rated Class A team, coming in at No. 20 overall. The Pirates are followed in Class A by Wheeling Central (17-2), Gilmer County (15-2), Ravenswood (16-2), Pendleton County (13-2), Notre Dame (12-5) and St. Marys (16-3).
