Man sentenced to 5 years in prison for role in 2014 Oak Hill double murder

OAK HILL, W.Va. – A 2014 double murder in Oak Hill came to a partial conclusion Wednesday when the Fayette County Circuit Court sentenced Jonathan Jones to five years in prison as part of a plea deal.

Jones, 29, of Oak Hill, was accused of serving as an accessory to the March 23, 2014 fire that resulted in the deaths of two women.

Cheryl Ward died a day after the fire, and Jamie Castillo passed away on July 6 because of injuries.

According to a statement from Fayette County Prosecuting Attorney Larry Harrah, the West Virginia Office of the Chief Fire Marshal and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office were able to determine the fire was intentionally set, and criminal indictments were served against William Dixon, 59, of Oak Hill, and Jones.

The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner classified the deaths as homicides.

The trial date for Dixon has not been set because of his medical condition. Harrah said Dixon was primarily responsible for the fire.
