Coal truck driver dies week after truck overturned

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A coal truck driver injured at a Logan County mining site last week died Friday, according to the state Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training.

Franklin Vannoy, Jr, 54, of Delbarton, was delivering coal to the Greenbrier Minerals Elk Lick Loadout at 7:25 a.m., Feb. 3 when his truck overturned. He died Friday morning from the injuries he suffered a week earlier, mine safety officials said.

Vannoy drove for Stacy Equipment & Repairs Inc.

An investigation into what may have caused the truck to overturn is underway.

It’s the first mining death in West Virginia in 2017.
