Route 2 crash claims life

UPDATE 2 p.m. Wednesday   State police have released the names of those involved in the crash:

Clinton Joseph Walker, 59, of Huntington died in the collision.

Clinton Lee Walker, 36, of Huntington was driving the Chevrolet Cavalier that was involved in the accident.

Ashley Acord, 19, of Lesage, was riding in the back seat of the car when the accident happened. She is the granddaughter of the fatal victim.

 

HUNTINGTON, W.Va — A man was killed in a high-speed crash on state Route 2 in Huntington Tuesday evening.

According to state police, the northbound car went off the highway in the 5800 block and slammed into a tree at around 5:30 p.m. The force of the collision uprooted the tree and nearly split the car in half.

The man who died was the front seat passenger. A young woman in the back of the car and the driver, who was ejected, both survived and are hospitalized at St. Mary’s in Huntington in critical condition.

Traffic on Route 2 was slowed for several hours after the crash.
