V100’s Reid and Stacie get married on air this Valentine’s Day

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Reid and Stacie Thrush, co-hosts of the V100 Morning Show in Charleston, say they typically don’t do things the traditional way, so it was no surprise they got married on air.

The bride and groom said “I do” Tuesday morning.

“This morning at 7:20, I told her there’s going to be a wedding in the studio today. You and I are going to get married on the air, and of course, she just about flipped out,” Reid said.

“Shock” is the best word to describe Stacie’s reaction to the on-air wedding.

“I was surprised. I was completely caught off guard, obviously, or I would’ve dressed better than in jeans and a t-shirt,” Stacie joked.

Reid got the marriage license a few weeks ago, but wanted to throw Stacie off about what day the couple would tie the knot.

“I didn’t want her to put together that the next holiday coming up is Valentine’s Day, so I kept saying April Fools Day — 4/1 — I can remember saying 4/1!” he said. “Surprisingly enough, she didn’t put together that Valentine’s Day was coming.”

The couple is on the air from 5:30 to 9 a.m. every day. They stepped in to host the show last September. V100’s early morning duo Steve Bishop and Jenny Murray moved to a 3-7 p.m. shift on air. Bishop then took over for Dave Weekley to host MetroNews “Hotline”, which airs from 3-6 p.m. on 10 stations across West Virginia.

Reid and Stacie met in 2013 at a radiothon in Memphis, Tennessee. He was at a station in Elkins. She was at a station in Beckley. In 2014, Reid took a radio gig in Jackson, Mississippi where he said a position opened up a few months later.

“He gave me a call and said ‘There’s a job opening. Would you like to come down here?’ I went down, got the job and he said you can stay with me until you find a place. Of course I never found a place,” Stacie laughed. “We just sort of ended up together that way.”

The move to Charleston came about two years later when Steve and Jenny’s shifts were moved.

“We just kind of gelled,” Stacie said of her and Reid’s chemistry. “From Day 1, it was like we had known each other our whole life. It was just natural.”

Working with your spouse is not as bad as it sounds, Reid joked.

“There’s a lot of people that say ‘I would never be able to work with my wife.’ And I think, ‘Man, you ought to try it.’ It’s awesome,” he said.

Behind the mic, together, is right where Stacie said she wants to be.

“I couldn’t think of a better venue than on the air live with our listeners and our radio family,” she said.
