Beckley jumps eight spots in boys MetroNews Power Index

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — University holds the top spot in the updated MetroNews boys basketball Power Index computer rankings, presented by AARP.

The Hawks entered the middle of the week with an 18-2 overall record and jumped previous No. 1 Musselman (16-3), which lost to Martinsburg last week.

Musselman is No. 2 this week, followed by No. 3 Capital (16-4), No. 4 Woodrow Wilson (15-5) and No. 5 Morgantown (16-4). Woodrow Wilson was the biggest mover of the week, jumping 12 spots after beating then-top five AAA opponents Capital, Morgantown and Parkersburg.

Fairmont Senior (16-3) jumps Bluefield (16-3) for the top spot in Class AA as the Beavers fell to Westside earlier in the week. After Bluefield in AA, the Beavers are followed by Poca (14-5), Philip Barbour (15-3) and Chapmanville (17-4).

Fayetteville (19-0) is the top ranked team in Class A at No. 17 overall, followed by Wheeling Central (19-2), Gilmer County (17-2), Ravenswood (17-2) and Notre Dame (14-5).

The MetroNews Power Index is a computer based formula that factors in strength of schedule. Records listed are for games played through Tuesday, February 14.
