WVAWC names new president

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia American Water Company will have a new president beginning next month, the company announced Thursday.

Brian Bruce will take over as WVAWC president March 1.

Brian Bruce will take over March 1 for Jeff McIntyre who is moving on to become senior vice president of American Water’s Mid-Atlantic Division which covers West Virginia and Pennsylvania. He’ll also be president of Pennsylvania American Water

Bruce is the current president of New York American Water which serves about 350,000 people.

“We can’t thank Jeff enough for his leadership in West Virginia and we are so pleased to have Brian join the Mid-Atlantic team,” American Water’s chief operating officer, Walter Lynch said in a news release. “Brian has more than 25 years of experience in the water industry and is highly committed to excellent customer service. I know he is excited to join our local team and meet the great people we are privileged to serve in West Virginia.”

McIntyre was in the spotlight two years ago when the leak of the chemical MCHM above the water company’s Elk River plant in Charleston caused a water emergency impacting customers in parts of nine West Virginia counties.

West Virginia American is the largest water utility in West Virginia.
