Huntington man dead following wrong way crash on Interstate 64

UPDATE Friday 5 p.m.  Police identify the victim as Dwayne Eddie Bowman, 23, of Huntington.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A man was killed Friday morning after driving his vehicle the wrong way on Interstate 64 in Huntington and slamming into a tractor trailer, police said.

I-64 is closed near the accident scene.

The car was headed west in the eastbound lanes at around 4 a.m. near the 5th Street exit when the crash occurred. Authorities believe the man had been going the wrong way for about 10 miles. A number of other drivers called 911 to report it.

The driver was traveling at a high rate of speed. Investigators said the crash may have been alcohol-related.

Both eastbound lanes near the eight mile marker are expected to be closed for several hours.
