MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgantown City Council is expected to take up the second and final reading of a weapons ordinance tonight, Tuesday, Feb. 21.
The gun regulation would prohibit anyone except current and retired law enforcement from carrying a gun in municipal buildings including city hall.
The ordinance passed a first reading by a 4-3 vote earlier this month.
In January, council met in executive session to discuss legalities regarding the proposed measure that was originally discussed in a December 2016 meeting.
Members of the West Virginia Citizen’s Defense League have opposed the measure and are expected to voice continued concern at the Tuesday meeting.
Members of council who support the gun ordinance maintain the measure is intended to create a safe atmosphere in city buildings.
Council meets at 7 p.m.
