Stolen vehicle report leads to high speed chase through three counties

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — West Virginia State Police have confirmed a police pursuit through three counties was sparked by a stolen vehicle report from Elkins.

Troopers were spotted headed northbound on Interstate 79 from Harrison County, through Marion County and on to Monongalia County between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21.

The pursuit was estimated to reach speeds of 100 mph as the suspect ended up crossing into Pennsylvania.

According to Corporal Steve Swiger, Pennsylvania police were notified to be on the lookout for the vehicle, reportedly a Toyota Rav 4.

Swiger said there were no injuries and the investigation is ongoing.
