MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The Gold & Blue Lunch Report recaps the palpitating moments from West Virginia’s 77-62 win over Texas, some of which had nothing to do with basketball.
Mountaineer Nation needed its own defibrillator after Bob Huggins knelt during a timeout, momentarily clutching at his heart. Seeing him rise to his feet, persuade everyone he was fine and coach the final 20 minutes, 27 seconds of his 813th victory — that was full-on Huggs.

We might not like him, but we’re certainly not trying to kill Bob Huggins.

After the game — in which West Virginia won comfortably but failed to cover by a half-point (somewhere, Musburger was watching WVU dribble out the final 2 minutes) — the Mountaineers found themselves in a second-place Big 12 tie with Iowa State. Both are 10-5 in the league after the Cyclones dealt poor Texas Tech another overtime loss. Baylor, still 9-5, surely will make it a three-team deadlock once again when it hosts Oklahoma.
And here’s the juicy thing: All three of those teams play each other within 48 hours at the next Saturday-Monday turn.
