Wayne man charged with murder

WAYNE, W.Va. — A Wayne County man was arraigned Tuesday afternoon after being charged with murder, police said.

Johnnie Walls of Wayne was arrested Tuesday.

Johnnie Walls, 44, allegedly shot and killed Walter Toppins, 77, in a house the two shared on Big Branch Road in Wayne.

According to the criminal complaint, Walls told police the two had been arguing since Sunday. He said Toppins reached for something on the fireplace Tuesday morning. Walls told police he then grabbed a gun and shot Toppins.

Walls is being held without bail in the Western Regional Jail.
