Satisfaction being found with DMV online renewal

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — It’s been several months since the West Virginia Division of Motor Vehicles expanded it’s on-line renewal options.  The public is responding well according to state DMV Commissioner Pat Reed.

“It’s very popular and increasing every day,” Reed said. “We’re seeing lots of people talking about it and wanting to do it.  We’re also offering it on our kiosks.”

The kiosks were the most recent advancement in technology which expanded the availability to customers and the convenience of skipping long waits at a regional DMV office.   On the programs motorists can renew their vehicle registration or their drivers license, provided none of the current information on file with the DMV has changed.  If there’s a change of address, a change of name, or some other difference that still will require you to come inside and take a number.  However,  Reed says if you do have to come in, the online offerings are helping to cut down on the crowds.

“As a state agency we don’t have money to add more people. We have very efficient people in these regional offices, but we’re just overloaded with customers,” she said. “This will help alleviate some of that.”

The kiosks are positioned outside of several of the regional DMV offices and more are being added in private business locations with a lot of foot traffic.   Reed said they’ve studied the markets and plan to put those into areas where the DMV office has a high volume of customer activity.

Those who don’t wish to use the kiosk can do it from their home on their home computer.

As for your picture on your drivers license–the one you have is the one you’ll keep–unless you’d like to change it, that will require you to come in, sit, and smile for the DMV camera again.
