2 people injured in lightning strike; heavy rain expected Wednesday

CLEAR CREEK, W.Va. — Two people were hospitalized Tuesday evening after being struck by lightning in Raleigh County.

The strike happened in the Clear Creek area at an abandoned mine site, authorities said.

Nearly half of the state’s counties are under a flash flood watch through Wednesday evening from the National Weather Service. Meteorologists said rain was expected to taper off Tuesday evening before two rounds of heavy rain arrive Wednesday.

There are thunderstorms in the forecast in association with the weather system.

The counties under the flash flood watch include:

Wayne, Cabell, Mason, Jackson, Wood, Pleasants, Tyler, Lincoln, Putnam, Kanawha, Roane, Wirt, Calhoun, Ritchie, Doddridge, Clay, Braxton, Gilmer, Lewis, Harrison, Taylor, Upshur, Barbour, Nicholas, Webster and Randolph counties.
