MOUNT HOPE, W.Va. – A man wanted in three separate counties was arrested Tuesday after fleeing from law enforcement in Fayette County.
Darnell Mitchell is facing drug-related and burglary charges in Fayette, Kanawha and Raleigh counties, as well as numerous felony and misdemeanor counts over previously fleeing from police. There was also an active bail piece in Fayette County against him after he failed to appear in court on charges facing him.
According to Fayette County Sheriff Mike Fridley, county deputies, the West Virginia State Police, and the Mount Hope and Oak Hill Police Departments learned that Mitchell had been spotted in Kilsyth. Authorities saw Mitchell, who fled on foot reportedly carrying a handgun.
Authorities found Mitchell at a mine equipment dealership in Raleigh County. Friday said Mitchell taunted officers, asking them to shoot him.
Fayette County Deputies E.A. Shrewsbury and K.V. Halstead were able to take Mitchell into custody without serious injury.
Mitchell was later taken to a hospital after he said said he took a controlled substance while running from authorities.
He is expected to be arraigned in Raleigh County Magistrate Court.
