MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Musselman (19-3) edged University (20-2) for the overall No. 1 spot in the final release of the high school boys basketball MetroNews Power Index computer rankings, presented by AARP.
While neither team played a regular season game since the Week 7 release, Musselman’s schedule strength slightly improved (with opponents’ wins/losses), while University’s slightly fell — it was enough to propel Musselman to No. 1.
After No. 2 University, the Hawks are followed in Class AAA by No. 3 Capital (18-4), No. 4 Morgantown (17-5) and No. 5 Woodrow Wilson (16-6).
Fairmont Senior (19-3) is the highest rated Class AA team at No. 7, followed by Bluefield (19-3), Poca (17-5), Philip Barbour (19-3) and Chapmanville (18-4).
Fayetteville (21-0) is the No. 1 team in Class A, coming in at No. 18 overall. The Pirates are followed in Class A by Wheeling Central (20-2), Notre Dame (17-5), Gilmer County (19-3) and Ravenswood (19-2).
Woodrow Wilson ends the regular season with the state’s most difficult schedule, followed by Parkersburg, Martinsburg, Ripley and Morgantown.
The MetroNews Power Index is a computer based formula that factors in strength of schedule. Records listed are for regular season games only.
