DHHR to reduce fleet by 33 vehicles

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday it will reduce 33 vehicles from its fleet, less than 10 percent of the department’s overall pool.

In a statement, Secretary Bill Crouch said the measure aligns with Governor Jim Justice’s recommendations on finding ways to deal with the state’s budget issues.

“This fleet reduction is just one strategy to stretch state dollars without compromising the many critical services DHHR provides to residents on a daily basis,” Crouch said.

The cuts are estimated to save the state more than $73,000 annually.

These are not the first cuts made by state bodies to vehicle fleets; the governor’s office, Division of Corrections, Division of Highways and Department of Environmental Protection have announced reductions totaling more than 200 vehicles.
