NORFOLK, Va. — Old Dominion ruined a pitcher’s duel with a five-run eighth against West Virginia’s bullpen and took the weekend series with a 7-4 win Sunday.
At the end of an 11-day, eight-game roadtrip, the Mountaineers slipped to 8-7.
The Monarchs improved to 11-4.
West Virginia right-hander Conner Dotson (3-1) allowed two runs on three hits over five innings.
The gap shrank to 2-1 after Cole Austin’s RBI single in the seventh, the only run charged to Old Dominion starter John Wilson (3-0) over his 6 2/3 innings.
But three Mountaineers relievers — Braden Zarbnisky, Jackson Sigman and Alek Manoah — allowed five runs on five hits in the eighth when ODU extended the lead to 7-1.
Austin led WVU with two hits and two RBIs, while right fielder Darius Hill had two hits.
