Covenant House to host 7th Annual Chef’s Challenge at Charleston Civic Center

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Seven West Virginia chefs will be in Charleston Tuesday night for the 7th Annual Chef’s Challenge hosted by the Covenant House.

The event will take place at the Charleston Civic Center from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Chefs will prepare gourmet 5-course meals by using food typically found in the Covenant House food pantry. The Covenant House, located in Charleston, helps provide shelter, food and clothing to people in need.

“They choose their menu from food that you would typically find in a food pantry. Thanks to the generosity of our community, you can find anything in our pantry on any given night, so the meal is fantastic,” said Ellen Allen, executive director of the Covenant House, on Monday’s MetroNews “Talkline.”

This year’s chefs include:

  • Chef Rich Arbaugh of South Hills Market in Charleston
  • Chef Evan Wilson of Ichiban Asian Cuisine in Charleston
  • Chef Tim Urbanic of Cafe Cimino Country Inn in Sutton
  • Chef John Wright of Bridge Road Bistro in Charleston
  • Chef Dennis Harris of Edgewood Country Club in Charleston
  • Chef Paul Smith of Buzz Foods in Charleston
  • Chef Todd Jones of Charleston Civic Center

For every dollar the Covenant House receives, 83 percent of it goes directly to helping hunger and homelessness in the Kanawha Valley.

“We will help about 13,000 working families this year,” Allen said. “These working families can count on us.”

Tickets are $100 per seat. To make a reservation, call (304)-344-8053 Ext. 22 or visit the Covenant House website.

All proceeds will go toward the Covenant House food pantry.
