Suspect in Fairmont homicide takes own life

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – A suspect in a Marion County homicide killed himself Wednesday at an apartment in Clarksburg.

Tim Jung Braunsberg, 34, of Clarksburg, allegedly was involved in a shooting Tuesday in the drive-thru of the First Exchange Bank on Fairmont Avenue. Fairmont police officers responded to the scene, noting the victim was holding onto a bag of opiates, but not possessing any weapons. Authorities collected a used .380 case at the crime scene.

The victim was taken to Fairmont Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities identified the man as 28-year-old Corey Seville Glover of Philadelphia.

Using cell phone data, a phone number was found connected to the potential purchaser of the drugs. Officers contacted residents about the possible person associated with the phone number, who was identified as Braunsberg.

Video footage from a local business showed a car parked near the scene of the shooting was driven to 305 Broadway Ave. in Clarksburg, where Braunsberg was staying. A warrant was then obtained to enter the apartment.

According to Fairmont Police Chief Steve Shine, officers did announce themselves before making entry into the apartment

After entering, officers heard a single gunshot coming from the bedroom. Authorities found Braunsberg on the floor with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.

Emergency medical services was called, and they pronounced Braunsberg dead shortly afterwards.

Shine said in a statement evidence collected by Clarksburg detectives indicate Braunsberg shot Glover.

“The weapon used in the suicide was a .380, and the casing was of the same manufacturer found at the homicide scene in Fairmont,” he said.

Shine said the department is continuing its investigation into Tuesday’s shooting.
