JCPenney closing 1 store in Mountain State

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — JCPenney released the list of 138 stores that it will close in the coming months and only one of those is in West Virginia.

The company said the store at the Foxcroft Towne Center in Martinsburg would be closing. The other stores in Barboursville, Bluefield, Bridgeport, Charleston, Morgantown, Mount Hope, Triadelphia and Vienna will remain open.

More than 5,000 workers nationwide will be impacted by the closures announced Friday.

“We believe we must take aggressive action to better align our retail operations for sustainable growth,” company chairman and CEO Marvin Ellison said earlier this year.  “Our decision to close stores will allow us to raise the overall brand standard of the Company and allocate capital more efficiently.”
