Deputies issue warrants in Cross Lanes shooting

CROSS LANES, W.Va. — Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies issued warrants for two men in connection with a Friday morning shooting in Cross Lanes.

Elijah Hammons, 20, of Cross Lanes, has been charged with robbery, kidnapping and grand larceny. Joshua Hatfield, 32, of Charleston, faces kidnapping and robbery charges.

The shooting happened at a mobile home in the Dalewood Trailer Park, according to a news release.

Michael Jeffries, a resident of the home, told deputies he drove his SUV with Hammons and a woman before stopping outside a Putnam County home. Jeffries said Hatfield ran to his car and got inside. Hatfield and Hammons allegedly struck Jeffries and then drove the car to Jeffries’ home in Cross Lanes.

Deputies said Hatfield then ordered Jeffries inside and demanded money at gunpoint. Jeffries wrestled the gun away and shot Hatfield three or four times. Hatfield then took off in Jeffries’ car. The car was located near Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Hatfield is being treated for gunshot wounds. He will be arrested after he is released from the hospital, the release said.

Hammons said he would turn himself Saturday morning, but failed to meet detectives.

Anyone with information on Hammon’s whereabouts urged to call the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office at 304-357-0169. Tips can be submitted online at www.kanawhasheriff.us or via email at tips@kanawhasheriff.us.
