Watch: ‘A Record of Regret – The Danny Heater Story’

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Danny Heater still feels embarrassed about scoring 135 points in a single game on Jan. 26, 1960.

That performance stands as the most points ever scored by a player in a high school basketball game. Yet the former Burnsville High School star remains more concerned about the opposing players, the kids from Widen, who lost 173-43 and were mocked for being on the wrong end of an outlandish record.

“I never want to make anyone look bad,” Heater said, “and I did that night.”
