Wayne County Schools cuts employees, gets new superintendent

WAYNE, W.Va. — Eighty-five employees of Wayne County Schools learned Friday of changes to their job; they will either be transferred to another position or be cut from the school system.

The reduction includes employees at the board of education’s central office, administrators, teachers and service personnel.

Programs are also set to be cut, with most of those believed to be happening at the high school level.

Wayne County Schools Superintendent David Roach

The county school system is expecting a $1.5 million decrease in revenue for next year.

Additionally, David Roach was named the county’s new superintendent Friday at an emergency school board meeting.

Roach previously served as superintendent in Cabell and Lincoln counties.

He will replace Steve Paine, who will become the West Virginia Superintendent of Schools on Monday.
