Man sentenced for threatening to destroy government buildings

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A man who threatened to destroy federal buildings in six U.S. cities was sentenced Wednesday, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Betsy Steinfield Jividen.

Jeremy Smith, 37, was sentenced to 27 months for threatening to damage buildings by use of explosions.

In November 2015, Smith mailed threats to federal buildings in Philadelphia, Boston, Washington, New York and Chicago.

He pleaded guilty to one count of threatening to damage buildings in February 2017.

Smith is incarcerated at the federal prison in Hazelton.
