SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. — Class AAA No. 1 Jefferson lost to an in-state opponent for the first time in two years on Saturday, falling to Class AA No. 8 Frankfort 10-9.
Brett Whiteman finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored in the win, while Zack Whitacare went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored as well for Frankfort. The Falcons’ A.J. Crist went 2-for-2 and scored three runs for the Falcons.
Austin Bulman went 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored in the loss, while Austin Cross added five RBIs for the Cougars.
Jefferson, which has won back-to-back Class AAA state championships, won the first game of Saturday’s double-header with Frankfort, 14-0.
The second game, though, was the first loss for Jefferson to an in-state opponent since 2015 when the Cougars fell to AA state champion Bridgeport.
Jefferson and Frankfort are both now 6-1 on the season.
