Deadly fire in Brooke County

FOLLANSBEE, W.Va. — One person was killed in an apartment fire in Brooke County Tuesday morning, investigators with the state Fire Marshal’s Office said.

The blaze occurred in one unit at the Washington Trail Motel on Main Street in Follansbee. Smoke from the apartment was spotted by a neighbor at about 6:50 a.m. Tuesday.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is underway. The victim’s name was not immediately released.
