California fugitive arrested in Lincoln County

HAMLIN, W.Va. — A man wanted for felony gun charges in California has been arrested in Lincoln County.

Officers from the Hamlin Police Department arrested Joseph Curry at an apartment complex in Hamlin around 8 a.m. on Thursday. Curry was sought by several agencies Wednesday night and was considered by police armed and dangerous after they searched for him.

He twice eluded capture early Thursday morning before he was finally apprehended. Authorities say in one of those encounters a gun was recovered.

As the search unfolded, Lincoln County school officials made the decision to cancel classes for the day at Lincoln County High School and Lincoln Pre-K-8 Elementary.
