CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Division of Labor has identified multiple gas stations in the state with credit card skimmers.
These devices collect credit or debit card information.
Since December 2016, the division has uncovered 10 skimmers at stations in Charleston, Marmet, Morgantown, Parkersburg and Nitro. Station employees have found other skimmers during this period, though they are not required to report the discovery.
Officials have contacted local law enforcement, FBI and Secret Service after each find.
Division of Labor Deputy Commissioner Mitchell Woodrum told WDTV-TV drivers should report any suspicious readers. He recommends paying inside or at pumps closet to the gas station’s store.
