Hatfield abruptly steps down from state education board

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A West Virginia State Board of Education member resigned Friday after more than two months with the body.

Chuck Hatfield joined the board in Feb. 2, and was selected to serve as vice president that same day. He served as Putnam County Schools Superintendent from 2004 to 2016.

Hatfield told the Charleston Gazette-Mail he is spending time taking care of his mother, who has health issues.
