Student allegedly brings gun to James Monroe High School

LINDSIDE, W.Va. — A James Monroe High School student was charged Friday after bringing a gun Friday to school.

Dacoda Honaker, 18, of Gaps Mills, was allegedly carrying an unloaded pistol in his backpack. According to a school resource officer, Cpl. M.J. Heller, he did not have any ammunition.

“I am thankful that the county has supported the school system with PRO deputies in our school locations for these types of situations,” said school superintendent Joetta Basile in a statement.

Basile said Honaker will be dealt with according to the West Virginia Safe Schools Act and the state code.

Honaker was charged with possessing a firearm on educational property and carrying a dangerous and deadly weapon without a license. He is at Southern Regional Jail on a $2,000 bond.
