High school student killed in Monroe County crash

LINDSIDE, W.Va. — A student at James Monroe High School was killed and a second student critically injured in a traffic crash Monday morning near Lindside, authorities said.

The students were on their way to school at the intersection of Pine Grove Road and U.S. Route 219. A preliminary investigation shows the students’ vehicle pulled from Pine Grove Road into the path of a large truck.

The driver of the car was killed. The second student was taken by helicopter to a Roanoke, Va. hospital.

The collision occurred at about 8 a.m.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.
