One suspect named in Oak Hill murder, considered armed and dangerous

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect involved in a home invasion Sunday.

In a statement released Monday, Sheriff Mike Fridley and Fayette County Prosecuting Attorney Larry Harrah said a warrant has been released for Derrick Michael Crouse of Oak Hill.

“Deputies and officers from the Oak Hill Police Department executed a search warrant at Crouse’s last known address in the Rosedale Trailer Park in Oak Hill earlier this evening, but Crouse had already left that area,” the statement said.

Janet Garrett, 48, was shot to death around 1:30 a.m. Sunday at a home in Oak Hill.

They described Crouse as a white male with a slender build. He is 19 years old, and approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall. According to the statement, he recently shaved his head and goatee in an attempt to alter his appearance.

“This individual is reportedly armed with a handgun and should be considered armed and dangerous,” Fridley said.

Anyone with information about Crouse’s possible location is urged to contact 911 or Crime Stoppers of West Virginia.

Another unnamed suspect is also being sought.
