Charleston man sentenced for August 2016 shooting

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston man who pleaded guilty to shooting and killing a Detroit man was sentenced Tuesday.

James Bennett was sentenced to eight years in prison for the death of Damartay “R.J.” Bonner in August 2016.

Bonner’s body was found at a 57th Street home in Kanawha City.

According to Charleston police, two witnesses said they heard a gunshot coming from a room in the house. Whey they went into that room, they saw Bennett standing over Bonner and holding a gun.
